Witness Recounts JAM MASTER JAY’s Final Moments with Emotion and Fear in Courtroom Testimony

Injured Witness Uriel Rincon Reveals Fear Hindered Cooperation with Authorities for Years After Jam Master Jay’s 2002 Murder

Uriel “Tony” Rincon, a close associate of the late JAM MASTER JAY, took the stand to recount the fateful night in October 2002 when the legendary DJ met his untimely end. As Rincon emotionally detailed the events, he revealed that JAM MASTER JAY exclaimed, “Oh shit” just moments before being fatally shot.

The court proceedings in Brooklyn have Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington facing charges for the murder of JAM MASTER JAY. Rincon, the first eyewitness to testify, shared that he refrained from naming Jordan as the shooter for years due to concerns for his safety and that of his family.

The incident unfolded at the 24/7 Studio in Jamaica, Queens, where JAM MASTER JAY was recording the group Rusty Waters. Rincon, Mizell’s friend, recalled that Jordan entered the studio and approached JAM MASTER JAY with a potential handshake. In a matter of seconds, shots were fired, and Rincon saw JAM MASTER JAY fall. He identified Washington as guarding the studio door during the incident.

Rincon’s emotional testimony described the chaos, with him sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. After the assailants fled, he informed Randy Allen, JAM MASTER JAY’s business partner, that they went toward the fire escape. Rincon’s identification of Jordan and Washington in court was a pivotal moment, with both men appearing impassive.

Under cross-examination, Rincon explained his delayed revelation to the authorities, citing fear and disbelief at the time. His reticence extended until 2017, highlighting the complex emotions and circumstances surrounding the case.

Dr. Corinne Ambrosi, who conducted JAM MASTER JAY’s autopsy, confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head, ruling it a homicide. The U.S. government’s case suggests JAM MASTER JAY’s involvement in a drug operation, leading to a deadly partnership between Washington and Jordan.

As the trial unfolds, the courtroom remains gripped by the tragic events that ended the life of the influential JAM MASTER JAY. The defense contends that witnesses’ cooperation deals with the government may influence their testimony, emphasizing the challenge of recalling events after decades. The judge has ruled against the admission of Jordan’s rap lyrics as evidence, deeming them too generic to link directly to the case.
