The Crazy Back Story Behind the Kid on XXXTentacion’s “Look At Me!” Cover

In 2015, on the brink of his rise to fame, XXXTentacion, often known as X, made a bold choice for his SoundCloud cover art. Opting for a provocative image, he selected a photo of a 12-year-old boy with a blunt hanging out of his nose. Interestingly, this wasn’t a random internet find; the boy in the image was KidPronto, who had sent the photo to X a couple of months earlier.

KidPronto, a mutual friend from their shared city, had connected with X and met him in person for the first time at X’s inaugural concert in Florida. Recalling the meeting, KidPronto mentions, “X pulled up on me with, like, 50 people on my street. Ski Mask [the Slump God] and all of them were there. We went to the show together and stayed in touch after that.”

The infamous nose-blunt photo that became cover art was a casual moment among friends. KidPronto explains, “I was smoking, and I just put it in my nose, took a picture, and sent it to the group chat as a joke. We were just playing, and X was like, ‘I’m going to use this as my next song cover!’ He wasn’t big or anything back then, so I didn’t really think nothing of it.”

During KidPronto’s time in jail, he learned of X’s untimely death. This event served as a catalyst for his own aspirations. Inspired by X’s encouragement and belief in his musical talents, KidPronto set out to pursue a music career upon his release. He recalls X’s words, “When I was around him, he used to tell me to make music, because I used to be freestyling and shit. He was like, ‘Bro, you snapping. You’ve got to make some music!’ And I was like, ‘Nah, fuck that. I’m not a rapper!’ But I had music all around me, and all my friends were making music, so eventually I was like, ‘All right, let me see what this is about.'”

KidPronto acknowledges a troubled past, sharing that during X’s turbulent times, he, too, faced legal issues. While he doesn’t delve into specifics, publicly available court documents hint at charges from 2017, including robbery, battery, vehicle theft, and resisting arrest.
