Skepta is making a comeback from his earlier rap retirement, surprising fans with the announcement of a new album, “Knife and Fork,” and a preview of its first single, “Gas Me Up.”

In a New Year’s Day Instagram post, the UK rapper expressed gratitude for the ongoing support during his hiatus and revealed that despite his retirement announcement in 2021, he’s eager to share new music with the world. The first single, “Gas Me Up (Diligent),” is set to drop on January 26th, and the full album is expected later in the year.

Skepta had initially retired after a successful run of five studio albums, concluding with “Ignorance Is Bliss” in 2019. However, he returned with a five-song EP, “All In,” clarifying on his Instagram Story that it would be his last offering as a rapper. He emphasized his role as a producer, expressing a desire to collaborate with various artists, especially focusing on an all-female album featuring talented female artists.

Despite stepping back from rapping, Skepta continued to make waves as a DJ and house music producer. His tribute to Amy Winehouse, “Can’t Play Myself,” showcased his versatility, featuring a haunting uptempo tune and a beautiful sample of Winehouse’s 2006 hit, “Tears Dry on Their Own.”

Skepta’s journey continues, and fans are eagerly anticipating the release of “Knife and Fork” and the return of his distinctive sound to the music scene.
