Jermaine Dupri To Showcase 30th Anniversary So So Def Festival With Xscape, TLC & Many More

JD recruited a line-up of ATL stars for the extraviganza

Jermaine Dupri, the influential figure in Atlanta’s music scene who also heads So So Def Recordings, has been a driving force in shaping the city’s musical landscape. Founding the So So Def label back in 1993, Dupri has played an instrumental role in the growth of the music industry. And now, he’s gearing up to commemorate the 30th anniversary of So So Def with an exciting two-night event at Atlanta’s Central Park. Scheduled for October 7 and 8, the 30th Anniversary So So Def Festival promises a celebration of music, memories, and talent.

This special occasion will feature live performances by a lineup of artists associated with So So Def, including Xscape, Jagged Edge, Anthony Hamilton, Da Brat, TLC, Dem Franchize Boyz, and Youngbloodz. The anticipation is high as more performers are set to be revealed in the upcoming weeks.

So So Def Recordings, under Jermaine Dupri’s guidance, has given rise to unforgettable albums like Xscape’s “Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha,” Da Brat’s “Funkdafied,” Jagged Edge’s “J.E. Heartbreak,” and Lil’ Bow Wow’s “Beware of Dog.” The label was also home to the iconic Hip-Hop duo Kris Kross, with Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith and the late Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly achieving mainstream recognition through their chart-topping hit “Jump” in 1992.

Beyond nurturing other artists, Jermaine Dupri has also showcased his own musical talents with albums like “Life in 1472” in 1998 and “Instructions” in 2001. The So So Def label continued to make waves with releases such as “Jermaine Dupri Presents… So So Def 25” compilation in 2018.

Recently, Dupri raised eyebrows with his comments regarding the lack of 50th-anniversary celebrations for Hip-Hop in Atlanta. Taking to social media, he expressed his surprise that no brands had organized any dinners or gatherings to commemorate this significant milestone. As the So So Def Festival approaches, it stands as both a testament to Dupri’s enduring impact and a testament to the vibrant musical culture he has helped cultivate.
